I got lost in “Lost In Translation”

Lost in translation is a movie based not on exploring a new country but perhaps exploring yourself and making new connections along the way.

Lost in translation directed by Sophia Coppola, and released in 2003 was one of the most memorable films of my childhood.

Capsuled in the film is a beautiful landscape of Tokyo in this specific era, everything from fashion, to food, music, and other aspects of culture seemed so unfamiliar. All of this brings viewers into our protagonist’s perspectives. We see them interact with their environment in the movie as it helps them cope with their homesickness and other various relationship issues. Witnessing new memories being created with strangers turned acquaintances, turned friends instilled a sense of wanderlust in the audience.

While we live in the world of 2022 and the landscape has changed with time, rewatching this movie allows its viewers to not only take a peak into Japan of 2003 but also put themselves in the shoes of the main characters that just wanted to explore while getting lost in translation.
